School Trips to the Czech Republic

The Czech Republic (otherwise known as Czechia) is one of Europe’s most popular tourist destinations due to its rich and diverse cultural history.

It’s this interesting past which makes the Czech Republic such a popular destination for school trips.  Now a member of the European Union, the country’s immediate past is born out of 40 years’ worth of communist rule and the Velvet Revolution which culminated in 1993. These days, Czechia is a fully developed nation with strong exports and a very bright future - in fact, the development of the country’s business centres makes it a fascinating visit for Business Studies classes.

History students will likely find the Czech Republic mesmerizing. As one example of the country’s rich past, it’s ancient tactically-important location gave rise to around 200 castles. Many with beautiful architecture and imposing spires, Czechia is regarded as having the highest concentration of these structures in the world.

Meanwhile, it’s capital city - Prague - is nicknamed ‘city of a hundred spires’ and is renowned for its enchanting  old town, supreme architecture, and appealing culture. Straight away, students will be struck by the contrast of old meets new as they see how quickly a medieval district can merge into a modern metropolis.

Yet, the Czech Republic doesn’t just appeal to history academics, those studying art or music are in for a treat as well. The host nation of choice for many of Europe’s cultural events, Prague has a wealth of theatres, concert halls, and music venues. It also holds regular festivals which are always worth seeing.

Consistently one of Europe’s most popular tourist destinations, the Czech Republic provides students with opportunities to experience a country of contrasts. The lessons learnt from this amazing nation will likely last a lifetime and should inspire your students to seek more from Europe.

Students love...

Skoda Factory

At the Skoda factory in Prague, students will watch an introductory film and be taken through the various stages of the car manufacturing process as they witness the mass production process of one of the world's biggest car brands. A questions and answer session is also available.

Cerge Institute

For students of business, economics, or politics, a visit to the CERGE institute is an exceptionally interesting experience. Here, students will receive a lecture covering several key topics including the Czech Republic’s political system, economic development, GDP, sector shares, state budgets, inflation, unemployment and import and export. A question and answer session is also available.

Ruckl Glass Factory

Groups can watch glass being melted then later cut into ornament patterns. This visit offers students a great contrasting experience to the mass production seen at the Skoda factory.

Prague Castle

The largest medieval castle complex in Europe and one of the most impressive collections of buildings in the city. Today, it is the seat of the President of the Czech Republic, serving as the historical and political centre of both city and state.

Walking Tour of Prague

A half day tour of Prague on foot and public transport with your local guide will cover all the major historical sites of the city: Old Town Square, Charles Bridge, Malá Strana (including Church of St Mikulas) and the Castle District.
