Two students in Arras using the NST French Language resources

French Language Immersion School Trips to the Opal Coast

More than a French trip. A fully immersive language experience.

If you want students to speak more French, they need more opportunities to use it.

That's exactly what they'll find at Château d'Ebblinghem. Through activities, mealtimes, evening entertainment and cultural visits, students are encouraged to listen, respond and communicate in French throughout their stay.

Developed in partnership with Escale Bretagne, a leading French language provider with more than 20 years' experience, the “un, deux, trois francais” programme combines active challenges, games and shared experiences to help students build confidence using French in real-world situations.

It's active. It's engaging. And it's designed to help students become more confident using French in the real world.

Why is the Opal Coast a great destination for French Language Immersion?

The Opal Coast offers students the opportunity to experience authentic French language and culture just a short distance from the UK. From bustling markets and local towns to cultural attractions and everyday interactions, students encounter French in real-life situations throughout their trip.

Combined with NST's exclusive immersion programme at Château d'Ebblinghem, it's the perfect environment for building confidence and encouraging students to use French beyond the classroom.

What can students expect from French Language Immersion at Château d'Ebblinghem?

Students are encouraged to use French throughout their stay. Activities, mealtimes and evening sessions are all delivered in French, creating a supportive environment where communication becomes part of everyday life.

The experience combines active challenges, themed activities and cultural experiences with dedicated language-learning resources to help students develop vocabulary, improve listening skills and grow in confidence.

Most importantly, it's designed to help students realise that they can communicate successfully in another language.

What makes Château d'Ebblinghem different from a standard French school trip?

French isn't limited to a classroom session or language workshop. At Château d'Ebblinghem, it becomes part of the entire experience.

Students benefit from a fully immersive French-speaking environment while staying within the safety and reassurance of NST's château accommodation. They can develop their language skills through everyday interactions, hands-on activities and cultural experiences, without the need for homestays or external language schools.

The result is a language-learning experience that's engaging, supportive and designed to deliver real confidence in spoken French.

Is French Language Immersion suitable for KS3 students?

Yes. KS3 is exactly who this experience has been designed for.

Students learn best when they're enjoying themselves and this programme is all about getting them listening, responding and communicating in French through fun, immersive experiences.

It's a brilliant way to build confidence, encourage participation and show students that French can be used beyond the classroom.

Bringing a GCSE group instead? No problem. The programme can be adapted for Key Stage 4 students, with additional opportunities to develop speaking confidence and use French in more challenging, real-world situations.

One programme. Different levels. Tailored to your group.

What's the difference between French Language Immersion and French Language Enrichment?

Want students speaking French from breakfast to bedtime? Choose French Language Immersion.

French isn't just part of the programme. It's part of everyday life. Students are encouraged to communicate in French throughout their stay, building confidence through constant exposure and real interactions.

Looking for a softer introduction to language learning? Choose French Language Enrichment.

Students use French during activities, cultural visits and structured language experiences, while still having the flexibility to dip in and out of the language as their confidence grows.

Immersion maximises language exposure. Enrichment builds confidence step by step.

Either way, students return home with stronger communication skills, greater confidence and a renewed enthusiasm for French.

Why choose a château-based French Language Immersion trip instead of a homestay?

A château-based experience gives every student access to the same immersive learning environment.

At Château d'Ebblinghem, students are surrounded by French throughout their stay, supported by native French-speaking staff and a programme designed specifically for school groups. There's no variation between individual host family experiences. Everyone benefits from the same level of support, language exposure and opportunities to communicate.

The result is an immersive experience that's consistent, easy to manage and designed to build confidence in French.

How do the activities support language learning?

Students learn best when they're actively involved.

That's why every activity is designed to get students listening, responding and communicating in French. Whether they're taking part in team challenges, creative tasks or cultural experiences, language becomes a natural part of what they're doing rather than something they're being tested on.

It's practical. It's engaging. And it helps students develop confidence using French in real situations.

Why does French Language Immersion help students build confidence?

Because practice makes participation feel normal.

At Château d'Ebblinghem, students hear and use French regularly throughout the day. The more opportunities they have to communicate, the less daunting it becomes.

Students quickly discover they don't need perfect grammar or pronunciation to make themselves understood. They simply need the confidence to have a go. That's often the biggest step forward they make during the trip

What level of French do students need?

No minimum level is required.

French Language Immersion has been designed specifically for Key Stage 3 students, many of whom are only beginning their language-learning journey. Activities are structured to encourage participation, build confidence and help students succeed, whatever their starting point.

The programme can also be adapted for GCSE and Key Stage 4 groups looking for a more challenging language experience.
