Why is Château d'Ebblinghem a great base for WWI Battlefield trips?
Located within easy reach of key First World War sites in France and Belgium, Château d'Ebblinghem is an ideal base for history and literature groups. Students can connect classroom learning with visits to significant battlefields, memorials and museums, while on-site activities such as Journey to the Trenches and opportunities to view WWI artefacts help bring the history of the Great War to life.
To further enhance the experience, groups may also choose to travel with an NST History Subject Expert, providing specialist insight and helping students gain a deeper understanding of the events, people and stories they encounter throughout their tour.
The Château's Story
Set within a historic French estate near St Omer, Château d'Ebblinghem has a history stretching back centuries. During the First World War, the surrounding area played an important role in supporting British forces and military units were stationed at the château itself.

What teachers say about Château d'Ebblinghem
Sole use of accommodation is the main reason that we continue to book with NST.
The flexibility this gives us and the feeling of safety due to its remote nature make it much easier for staff on the trip.
Larbert High School
I thought the food was particularly good this year and a lot of the young people made favourable comments. The hotel is very good at accommodating dietary requirements.
The staff are always helpful and friendly and are nice to the young people. It is such a well managed place with a spot on set up for school groups.
Peebles High School
Really lovely location. Good size and plenty of outdoor and games room activities. The shop was good. We enjoyed the campfire and marshmallow toasting.
I have used NST and PGL over a few years and like the familiarity of it and how you accommodate us. We get no additional time to plan trips and certainty and reliability matters.

We were really well looked after during our stay.
The facilities allowed students (and staff) time to relax and unwind as well as then being fully prepared for the following day visits.
I was very impressed with everything.
Stockport School
Excellent management team, very helpful with all queries. We felt safe & looked after throughout our trip.
Having the space for the students to play table tennis was good, as well as the games room. We had some students enjoying the boules set too, which was good.
