Develop map reading techniques & learn how to identify glacial landforms incorporating field sketching skills.

Glacial landscapes

Use geographical skills including field sketching, using keys to identify glacial deposits, using compasses to measure direction of glacier flow using striations & chatter marks. Identifying rock types in the terminal moraines & using this to work out the direction of ice movement in two adjacent corries.

Impact of tourism

Introduction to the economic uses of glacial landscapes using maps and google earth imagery. Visit a nearby ski area to study impact of skiing on the soils & biodiversity of flora.

Biodiversity and ecosystems

Visit the Incles Valley for a field study of alpine woods and high altitude agriculture as a sustainable resource.

River investigation

Develop fieldwork skills & techniques throughout this immersive course.
