By taking pupils on a History trip to Normandy, you can show them one of the defining episodes of WWII – The D-Day Landings.

Here a vast allied armada delivering 100,000’s of soldiers to the shores of Normandy marked the opening of the ‘Western Front’ against Nazi Germany. Other key events of WWII that can be studied in this region are Operation Dynamo in Dunkirk, Hitler’s Atlantic Wall at the French/Belgian border and the many V weapon sites.

Curriculum Focus

Whilst covering in detail the events of 1944, these  tours seek to convey a broad picture of the war in the west. An excellent range of state of the art museums is available. Study themes include:

4 Day Visit to D-Day Landings

Guided Study Tour or Standard Tour

Day 1 Travel to Accommodation

Depart school early morning for a Western route crossing (subject to availability) or a late morning
Dover/Calais crossing. Arrive in France and transfer to your accommodation for an evening meal.

Day 2 Caen

Depart after breakfast for a full day of visits in Caen and surrounding area. Visits include: Caen Peace Museum, with free 1-hour lesson ‘Resisting the Nazis (subject to availability), Pegasus Bridge Museum Bayeaux British Cemetery, 1944 Museum, Merville Battery, Ranville Cemetery. Return to your accommodation for an evening meal.

Day 3 Arromanches & D-Day Landing Beaches

Depart after breakfast for a further choice of excursions. Visits include: Arromanches Invasion Museum, British Mulberry Harbour, D-Day Landings Beaches incorporating Longues Battery, Pointe du Hoc, (possibly the best preserved battlefield sites in Normandy) the German Cemetery at La Cambe and the American Cemetery at Colleville. Return to your accommodation for an evening meal.

Day 4 Return Travel

Depart after breakfast for return journey to the UK.
