Key Visits
Sites of Revolution Tour
Travel by foot and public transport and take in a number of the major historic sites of Paris including; Place de la Concorde, the Tuileries Gardens and the site of the Tuileries Palace, The Louvre Palace, the exterior of the Conciergerie and Place de la Bastille.
A Walk through Paris of the Ancien Regime
A great follow up to the Sites of Revolution tour, take a walk through The Marais - one of the few areas of the city to escape Haussmann’s remodelling and which thus remains as it was at the time of the revolution and a visit to the Musee Carnavalet, the museum of the city of Paris with an excellent section on the revolutionary period.
Musee Carnavalet
The vast museum of the history of Paris is situated in a 16th century town house, the Hotel Carnavalet. This wonderful renaissance building was once the home of the writer Madame de Sevigny and the museum includes an excellent and extensive section on the Revolution.
Les Invalides
Home to Napoleon’s tomb, Les Invalides was originally built as a hospital and retirement home for army veterans. Also home to the French Military museum with excellent galleries on the Revolutionary and Napoleonic wars.
Chateau de Versailles
We recommend taking a morning tour of the Palace of Versailles where the emphasis will be on the early months of the Revolution, covering events such as The Tennis Court Oath.
Other visits Include:
- The Conciergerie
- Petit Trianon Palace
- Fontainebleau
- Arras - birthplace of Robespierre
