The Old Operating Theatre Museum & Herb Garret
Understand the nature of surgery before the barriers of infection and pain had been overcome with the reconstruction of an early 19th century operation. Also covers the role, status and training of surgeons before the advances in surgery and medical training in the later 19th century.
The Alexander Fleming Laboratory Museum

Crime & Punishment
Crime, Punishment and Protest is one of the fastest growing GCSE history courses in England and Wales.
National Archives Crime & Punishment Workshops
Give students the opportunity to work with original historical material covering aspects on the nature of crime and punishment from the early modern period to the 20th century. Sources are available on prison records, census returns as well as original material on the Jack the Ripper case.
Jack the Ripper Walk
Discover at first-hand the historical context of Whitechapel in the late 19th century as well as in-depth historical knowledge on Jack the Ripper. Discover the problems and difficulties facing the London Metropolitan Police in trying to find the ‘Whitechapel Murderer’. The site is also near Cable Street so the study visit can include work on 20th century protest.
Tower of London
Help to develop students’ understanding on the nature of authority and attitudes to crime and punishment in the early modern period. As well as dealing with imprisonment, it also gives an ideal opportunity for a more in-depth study of Guy Fawkes and his attempt to destroy the Houses of Parliament in 1605.
Museum of London
Give students an understanding of crime and punishment in Roman Britain to the Middle Ages. It helps them understand the nature of change and continuity in law and order from the Roman period, to Anglo-Saxon Law and Order to the Norman period.
