Cwm Idwal

There are fantastic opportunities for field sketching and Till Fabric Analysis at Cwm Idwal, a location commonly featured in the key texts used for AS and A2 specifications. This lake filled corrie is a spectacular product of glaciation, surrounded by high crags, screes and moraines. It affords dramatic views down the Nant Ffrancon.

Nant Ffrancon Valley

A classic glacial trough complete with rock steps, hanging valleys, ribbon waterfalls, streams, and Roche Moutonnées. The Nant Ffrancon valley is commonly featured in key texts used for AS and A2 studies. Detailed information and activity sheets are available for this visit.

The Llanberis Pass

This dramatic landscape is testimony to the sheer scale and power of the glaciers that shaped it, including hanging valleys, glacial troughs, ribbon lakes and evidence of rockfall and frost shattering. An excellent location to witness postglacial landforms.

The Great Orme

This prominent headland on the north coast of Wales offers excellent opportunities for studying coastal landforms and classic limestone features.

Mount Snowdon

The highest mountain in Wales, Snowdon affords breathtaking views of the deglaciated landscape. Experience the journey to the summit at leisure on the Snowdon mountain railway. Students can investigate the relationship between temperature and altitude with this visit.

Dinorwig HEP Station

The Electric Mountain HEP Station showcases an awe-inspiring engineering feat, complemented by our case study activity. This pumped storage HEP scheme provides a great opportunity for students to experience a hugely successful and sustainable energy project, and is excellent for synoptic and issues analysis investigations.

Morfa Harlech Dunes

This extensive dune system provides the perfect location for investigations into vegetation succession and psammosere characteristics. Opportunities for data collection and field sketching are provided.
