Geography school trips to China
A country of huge contrasts, China is commonly used as a case study across the range of AS/A2 specifications, and also ties in well with studies at GCSE. In addition, your group can visit a wide range of tourist attractions. Plus, the 2008 Olympic Games provides an excellent insight into Urban Development and Rebranding, whilst the controversial Three Gorges Dam makes for a fascinating visit.
Below, you’ll find an example of one of our most popular itinerary choices, but we can tailor-make yours from scratch to meet your exact requirements...

Our most popular visits in China for Geography school trips
We provide both single-centre and multi-centre tours in China for Geography groups including Beijing, xian, Shanghai, Suzou and a yangtze River Cruise, and we’ll create a tour to meet your specific needs. A new bullet train has dramatically cut the travel time between Beijing and Shanghai to 10 hours, making this a great option in place of an internal flight as the train journey is often much cheaper. We can tailor-make an itinerary to your exact needs. Call 0845 688 8988 to create your itinerary from scratch today.
Cultural Beijing
Study the themes of World Cities, Cultural Diversity and Tourism in this magnificent city. Here, your group will walk along a section of the Great Wall of China, followed by a visit to the Sacred Road, lined with symbolic animal statues, and the Ming Tombs. At Tiananmen Square, you’ll gain an appreciation of the cultural diversity the city offers. Take in the Forbidden City, including the Chinese Imperial Palace. A visit to the Temple of Heaven and the Summer Palace on Silk Alley Market will also be possible en route.
Beijing Olympic Site
Learn about Sport & Tourism as a Catalyst for Urban Change, and study Rebranding at the Beijing Olympic Site. Take part in Urban Regeneration and Future Land Use activities, visit the Bird’s Nest Stadium and other key Olympic sites. The city’s polluted atmosphere received widespread media attention in the run up to the Olympic Games, with techniques such as cloud seeding being used to manage the hazard. An ideal visit for focusing on Pollution Issues.
China-Focused Geography Lectures
In Beijing, NST groups can attend a specially arranged 2½ hour lecture delivered by a university professor in English. The choice of topics include:
- The rapid economic growth of China - causes and consequences
- The disparities within China (rich and poor, urban and rural)
- What the future holds for China, including its role in globalisation
Xian
Xian offers opportunities to study Cultural Diversity and observe Tourism Impact and Management Strategies. Marvel over the Terracotta Army, dating from 210BC and discovered in 1974. Make a short visit to the Huaqing Hot Spring before spending time at the Big Wild Goose Pagoda, a well preserved ancient building and a holy place for Buddhists. Spend time exploring the Muslim Quarter or cycling along the top of the city walls. You could even enjoy the Tang Dynasty Show, which past groups have said makes a great evening activity.
Shanghai
Shanghai’s rapid economic development perfectly exemplifies the issue of Globalisation, and also links to studies of World Cities, Urbanisation and Development. Visit the Oriental Pearl TV Tower, Pudong’s special economic zone, China’s busiest shopping street, Naying Lu, and People’s Square where Tai Chi is performed at sunrise. The Jade Pagoda Temple and the Yuyuan Gardens are also excellent visits. Why not end your day with a fantastic evening cruise on the Huangpu River!
Yangtze River Cruise to theThree Gorges Dam
3 day Itinerary Addition
Take an internal flight to Chongqing then set sail down the Yangtze River to the town of Fengdu known as the ‘abode of the devils’. Continue through the Qutang Gorge and the Wu Gorge, sail through the five steps ship lock along the Shen Nong Stream, and the western end of the Xiling Gorge to reach the Three Gorges Dam. Renowned as the world’s greatest dam and HEP project, many conflicts and challenges now face the surrounding population and environment. The project is named on a number of specifications as a recommended case study and ties in with new AS/A2 study themes.
Suzhou
An ancient city with a 2,500 year history! Visit the Humble Administrator’s Garden and the silk factory. A short cruise on the Grand Canal will fascinate your students as they observe the river life and this amazing city from the ideal viewpoint.
Evening Activities
Chinese Acrobats Show (Beijing)
Kung-Fu Show (Beijing)
Peking Opera (Beijing)
Tang Dynasty Show (Xian)
