Key Educational Visits
Our tours to India take in the sights and sounds of the three fascinating destinations of Agra, Jaipur and Delhi. NST groups who have returned from a trip here tell us that they’ve enjoyed a truly eye-opening and inspiring experience.
Agra
Without doubt, the highlight of any visit to Agra is the spectacular Taj Mahal. There are a range of other impressive sights including the fabulous Red Fort, whose impenetrable walls hide an internal paradise and the ghost town of Fatehpur Sikri, just 35 miles from the city and the home of a number of historically important buildings.
Taj Mahal
The greatest and most visited site in India, constructed in 1560 by Shah Jehan as the burial place for his queen. Students will be mesmerised in the presence of this symmetrical, white marble mausoleum, a stunning piece of architectural genius and vision.
Agra Fort
Also known as the Red Fort, this magnificent complex is built from red sandstone with the interior laid with carved white marble. From the top of the fort groups can see a fabulous view of the Taj Mahal.
Deserted City of Fatehpur Sikri
Visit the remarkably well-preserved, ‘Ghost City’ whose buildings include the Jama Masjid, tomb of Salim Chisti, Panch Mahal Palace and other palaces that show the grandeur and splendour of the Mughal Empire at the height of its power.
Delhi
The heady mix of colours, smells, noise and people make Delhi typically Indian. All aspects of Indian culture are visible here, from the amazing Akshardham temple, the largest Hindu temple complex in the world, to the bustling market at Chandni Chowk.
Highlights of Old Delhi Guided Tour
Your group can explore the historic old part of Delhi where our guide will show students the Rajghat memorial to Mahatma Gandhi and explain how he is still revered as a ‘Father of India’, Jama Masjid mosque, Chandri Chowk and experience an oriental bazaar.
Highlights of New Delhi Guided Tour
Students can see the legacy of the British Empire as they pass the Victorian architecture of many of the buildings whilst also taking in the sights of the President’s residence, India Gate memorial and the amazing Qutab Minar on this fascinating tour.
Jaipur
Known as the “pink city” due to the distinctive colour of its buildings, Jaipur was once the home of Kings, whose legacy can be seen in the City Palace and its spectacular Hawa Mahal. There are a wide number of other attractions in Jaipur including Amber Fort, Jantar Mantar, and the Jal Mahal.
Highlights of Jaipur Guided Tour
This tour of India’s historic “pink city” takes in the fabulous Maharaja’s City Palace. Now part museum and part residence of the Jaipur royal family, students will enjoy exploring the armoury museum with its collection of pistols, blunderbusses, swords, rifles and daggers. Another highlight is the Jantar Mantar, a large stone and marble crafted observatory. Evening rickshaw rides are also available.
Amber Fort
This Rajasthani Fort Palace may look time-ravaged from the outside but is stunning on the inside. Students will be amazed by the numerous murals, paintings, precious stones and mirrors that adorn the walls and the famed Sheesh Mahal will take their breath away.
Sanganer Handicraft Centre, Jaipur
The home of thousands of craftsmen, your group can watch as they work together to produce traditional, hand printed Indian fabrics and papers.
Cultural Experiences
Our tours are full of amazing experiences, but you can increase cultural learning by adding any of these visits.
Welcome Dinner & Cultural Dance
After receiving a traditional Indian welcome, your students will tuck into a hot Indian buffet dinner while local dancers perform a variety of colourful and vibrant Indian classical and folk dances. As the dinner progresses the more adventurous members of your group can join the dancers and learn a step or two.
School Visit
What better way to introduce groups to Indian culture? Students will meet and talk with students of their own age to discover the similarities and differences between the lives of children in the UK and India.
Bollywood Film at a Local Cinema
These films form a big part of Indian society and watching one within an Indian cinema, and seeing how they are received, will be a fun experience for students.
