Key Educational Visits in Cairo
The capital of Egypt, and the largest city in Africa, as well as one of the most densely populated cities in the world. Cairo has long been a centre of the region’s political and cultural life and has obvious links to Ancient Egypt due to its proximity to the Great Sphinx and the pyramids in adjacent Giza.
Memphis & Saqqara
The ancient city of Memphis is an open-air museum with numerous statues and artifacts. It’s also home to the famous Saqqara necropolis and its famous step pyramid, the oldest of all the pyramids found in Egypt.
The Pyramids & Great Sphinx
Standing on the Giza plateau, this complex of ancient monuments is probably the most famous in the world. The sheer size and precision of their construction has to be seen to be believed.
Egyptian Museum of Antiquities
Home to an extraordinary number of ancient Egyptian artifacts, believed to be over 120,000, including nine mummies and many of the treasures discovered in the tomb of Tutankhamen.
Key Educational Visits in Aswan
The furthest south of the three Nile cities, Aswan was considered by the Ancients as the Gateway to Africa. It is now a modern city, busy market and a tourist centre.
Elephantine Island
The largest of the Aswan area islands and one of the most ancient sites in Egypt and home to three Nubian villages, Aswan Museum and an ancient temple.
Aswan Bazaar
This traditional market has remained unchanged for generations and provides students with a great opportunity to see the hustle and bustle of an Egyptian market for themselves and sample many of the local delicacies on offer.
Sound & Light Show at Philae Temple
Dramatic lighting, music and narration transform the Temple of Philae and bring its history to life. As your group walks through the temple, they unravel the legend of Osiris, Lord of the Dead and his beloved wife Isis.
Key Educational Visits in Luxor
Once the ancient city of Thebes and the home and final resting place of numerous pharaohs it’s no wonder Luxor is often thought of as the world’s greatest open air museum.
Valley of the Kings
The burial site of the pharaohs of the New Kingdom, including Tutankhamen, is considered by many to be the highlight of the abundance of sights on Luxor’s West Bank. There are 63 known tombs whose spectacular decorations depicting Egyptian rituals and beliefs have to be seen to be believed.
Temples of Karnak and Luxor
These two stunning temples are separated by a three kilometre row of Sphinxes. Karnak, a masculine temple, is the biggest temple complex in the world, while Luxor temple, a feminine temple, has probably the most spectacular entrance of any Egyptian temple. Students can compare both temples, with their varying styles of decoration and legends they depict.
Temple of Queen Hatshepsut
An imposing sight, on Luxor’s West Bank, set against a backdrop of steep cliffs. This is the stunning mortuary temple of Queen Hatshepsut, the self proclaimed only female pharaoh and an impressive sight.
