Key Visits
The Colosseum
Who can resist a visit to the Colosseum? The world’s largest surviving structure of Roman antiquity with its grandeur, wonders of construction and the horrors of the amphitheatre. Our guide will truly set the scene and leave students in awe.
Palatine Hill
The most central of the Seven Hills of Rome is one of the most ancient parts of the city. See the ruins of the Imperial Palaces and the Hut of Romulus, as well as a great view of the Circus Maximus. Explore the pleasant gardens or see vibrant frescos in the recently opened house of Augustus.
Roman Forum
The oldest and most important structures of the ancient city are located here, including the temple of Saturn and the complex of the Vestal Virgins. Imagine Cicero or Mark Anthony walking to the Senate House or Rostra and picture Pliny in the Centum viral court.
Pantheon
Built as a temple to all the gods and rebuilt circa 126AD during Hadrian’s reign, it’s still in use today. A marvel of Roman engineering and, until the middle of the 20th century, the largest masonry dome built.
Vatican City
Somehow a visit to Rome is not quite complete without a visit to St Peter’s Basilica or the Sistine Chapel. A visit through the Vatican Museums, accompanied by the required local guide, will also provide your group with the chance to see some of the world’s fi nest examples of Greek sculpture and vase painting.
Capitoline Museum
Situated on the top of the Capitoline Hill, this fabulous museum houses an excellent collection of Roman statues, inscriptions and other artefacts.
On the Outskirts of Rome
The Catacombs
On the outskirts of the City lie these ancient burial grounds of the early Christians. A local guide is provided on this underground tour.
Ostia Antica
The harbour city of ancient Rome is 20 miles out of the city but is a fascinating visit. Students love to explore the extensive remains of the Roman town and often prefer it to Pompeii and Herculaneum. Combine with a visit to the Catacombs or an evening visit to nearby Time City.
Time City by Ostia Antica
A great evening visit following on from Ostia. Students can shop, go bowling, play arcade machines and enjoy an evening meal. A great way to unwind before returning to Rome.
Tivoli
Visit the fountains of the Villa d’Este gardens, but more importantly the Emperor Hadrian’s villa, whose expansive ruins are full of interest.
Other Visits & Attractions
Time Elevator
A great evening activity in the centre of Rome. Take a journey through the development of Rome and experience multi sensorial effects as you watch panoramic screens.
Rome by night
Take a guided tour by coach or a guided walk with our head guide, Richard, to see the sights of Rome by night.
Spanish Steps
Take a group photo at this popular evening visit.
