Galleries & Museums

Museo del Prado

“Features one of the world’s finest collections of European art based on the former Spanish Royal Collection”.

Located right at the heart of Madrid’s cultural centre, the Prado is home to many European masterpieces. The extensive collection of historical works by artists such as Goya, Velázquez and El Greco celebrates Spanish heritage and clearly defines links to all the other major European Schools.

Thyssen Bornemisza Museum

“Offers a tour of the art from the 13th century to the late 20th century”.

The prestigious collection consists of over a thousand pieces and was once labelled the most important private art collection in the world. The galleries host many modern masters of the 20th century movements documenting the influences of Van Gogh, Monet and Mondrian among others.

Centro de Arte Reina Sofia

“Highlights of the museum include collections of Spain’s two greatest 20th century masters - Picasso and Dalí”.

Completing the cultural triangle of museums in Madrid, this centre houses a permanent collection of Spanish modern and contemporary art and is home to Picasso’s Guernica.

Up & Coming Exhibitions

Museum Nacional del Prado: The Young Van Dyck

20 November 2012 - 3 March 2013

This exhibition will analyse the work of the celebrated Flemish painter before his departure from Antwerp for London in late 1620, during the period when the young Van Dyck worked for Rubens.

Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum: Gauguin and the Voyage to the Exotic

9 October 2012 - 13 January 2013

Paul Gauguin's flight to Tahiti is the guiding thread of this exhibition. Through a comprehensive selection of works by late 19th and early 20th century artists, it aims to reveal how travelling to supposedly more 'authentic' regions affected the transition to modern art.
