Shakespeare's Globe summer 2020 performances

Priority booking opens on Thursday 13th February

Located on the bank of the River Thames in Bankside's Cultural Quarter, Shakespeare's Globe welcomes groups to experience world renowned productions of Shakespeare every day.

We have worked closely with Shakespeare’s Globe for many years and are an official ‘Friend of the Globe’. We offer fantastic group prices on tickets for strongly curriculum-linked Shakespeare performances.

Furthermore, as there is a requirement in the new curriculum for students to study two Shakespeare plays, this is a perfect opportunity to introduce your group to various Shakespeare texts.

Live demonstrations & tours

Live demonstrations can be booked for your group, covering Shakespeare’s use of stage-fighting, Elizabethan clothing, and printing on a traditional-style press.

Elizabethan Dressing Demonstration

Using clothes from the Globe Theatre wardrobe, we’ll explain the intricacies of dressing and the significance of clothing in Elizabethan society.

Do you know the origin of the phrases ‘straight-laced’, ‘loose women’ or ‘pin money’? And what did Shakespeare’s contemporaries use as a stain remover? Find out as we dress someone from your group as a character from a Shakespeare play.

Shakespeare’s Use of Stage Fighting Demonstration

Watch an exciting demonstration of Elizabethan stage combat techniques. This includes an explanation of how stage fighting was used by Shakespeare and his contemporaries in Early Modern plays.

Globe Theatre Tour & Shakespeare Southwark Tour

During a 30-minute guided tour of the Globe Theatre, our expert guide-storytellers provide fascinating tours of the auditorium, vividly recreating colourful stories of the 1599 Globe playhouse, the reconstruction process in the 1990s and how the ‘wooden O’ works today as an imaginative and experimental space for performance.

During a 30-minute tour, your group will delve into the history of Bankside as a theatre district during Shakespeare’s time.

Your tour guide will transport you back to Elizabethan London highlighting interesting historical landmarks of the area, including the former locations of the original Globe and Rose theatres.

The Rose was built in 1587, 12 years before Shakespeare’s original Globe, and is now only Elizabethan playhouse that has been excavated on a large scale by archaeologists. The site today inspires actors and other artists just as it did over four hundred years ago.

Nearby, archaeology from the original Globe site provided crucial evidence for today’s reconstructed theatre. Thameside ferrymen and the blood-thirsty sports of bear- and bull-baiting also feature in this tour: a perfect addition for visitors who may already be familiar with the Globe.
