When organising educational group travel overseas, ensuring that every member of the group has accurate and valid documentation to exit and return to the UK is vitally important.

Invalid passports, non-matching names on passports and flight tickets, the lack of a visa for a non-UK passport holder and other documentation problems can have serious consequences for the smooth running of your travel arrangements.

Ensuring you avoid problems with passport and visa documentation isn’t too difficult but does require you to be methodical in your approach. In this section, we have listed some useful passport and visa website links, information and advice and details on collective group passports.

In addition to the information in this section, for more details on collective passports, other passport advice and visas, we recommend that you consult with the  ‘UK Passport Office’ plus other appropriate embassies where applicable. We have listed some useful links on pages in this section.

  • Passports (General)
  • Both UK and non-UK passport holders require valid passport documentation to exit and return to the UK.
  • Collective Passports
  • A collective passport can be issued to approved groups of students, (applicable to British subjects only) who are under the age of 18 and plan to travel together on a trip overseas. The collective passport is FREE for qualifying NST groups.
  • Visas
  • Both UK passport holders or non-UK passport holders, may require a valid visa to visit some countries.
