In Ypres Salient our itineraries usually focus on the events of 1917, the battles of Messines aqnd Third Ypres, often known as Passchendaele, in which terrible casulaties were taken on both sides.  At the Somme on 1st July 1916, the British Army suffered nearly 60,000 casualties, the campaign then continued until mid-November for a maximum gain of seven miles.
An added visit to Verdun can add a French dimesion to your students studies.

Curriculum Focus

Following the events of 1917, a tour to the Ypres area concentrates on the period from the beginning of The Messines Offensive in June to the end of The Passchendaele Offensive in November. Other events within The Salient are also studied. On The Somme, a tour will follow the events of the 1st July in considerable detail.
