Classical Sicily Tour

Day 1: Sicily

Direct flight to Palermo, Sicily, or indirect flight via mainland Italy. You will be met by a representative for the coach transfer to your hotel in the Palermo area. Evening meal (first meal included). Overnight: Palermo area.

Day 2: Palermo and Monreale

Full day visit to Palermo (full day guide can be provided at additional cost) with morning visits to the Church of San Giovanni degli Eremiti, a Norman church set in a beautiful garden, and the Palatine Chapel and Cathedral. Afternoon visit to Monreale on the outskirts of Palermo, to visit the magnificent Cathedral and Benedictine cloister. Continue to the Convento dei Cappuccini, renowned for its catacombs. Return to the hotel for evening meal. Overnight: Palermo area.

Day 3: Segesta, Selinunte and Agrigento

Depart after breakfast for the journey to Agrigento with visits en route to Segesta, one of the best preserved Greek archaeological sites, to view the Greek Theatre and Doric Temple, and Selinunte, an abandoned ancient Greek city, to view the Greek Acropolis and Temple (full day guide can be provided at additional cost) . Arrive in time for evening meal. Overnight: Agrigento area.

Day 4: Agrigento

Morning visits in Agrigento (a guide can be provided at additional cost) to the Archaeological Museum and famous Valley of the Temples (includes the Temples of Hera, Concordia, Zeus, Hercules etc). Continue in the afternoon to explore the new town of Agrigento. Return to the hotel for evening meal. Overnight: Agrigento area.

Day 5: Noto

Depart after breakfast for the journey to Noto, ‘Sicily’s Baroque City’, with visits en route to Piazza Armerina and the Roman Villa with its fabulous mosaics. Arrive in time for evening meal. Overnight: Siracusa area.

Day 6: Siracusa, Ortygia Island, Giardini Naxos and Taormina

Depart after breakfast for a full day excursion to Siracusa, the most important city in Magna Graecia (a guide can be provided at additional cost). Visit the Archaeological Park, Greek Theatre and Amphitheatre, Ear of Dionysius and Archimedes tomb. Continue in the afternoon to Ortygia Island to visit the Temple of Apollo, the Cathedral and mythological Arethusa Fountain. Visit Giardini Naxos continuing to Taormina. Overnight: Taormina area.

Day 7: Mount Etna and Alcantara Gorge

Morning visit to Mount Etna, Europe’s highest active volcano and Sicily’s largest nature reserve. Afternoon visit to the Alcantara Gorge and return to the hotel. Overnight: Taormina area.

Day 8: Return to the UK

Breakfast in your hotel (last meal included). Subject to flight timings, free time prior to the transfer to the airport for the return flight to the UK.
