Classical Rome & Bay of Naples Tour 8 Days from only £486pp - Inclusive Tour by Air Day 1: Rome Flight to Rome. You will be met by our local representative for the coach transfer to your Rome hotel. Evening meal at a nearby restaurant (first meal included). Evening free to make your first explorations into the city. Overnight: Rome. Day 2: Rome Full day tour of Rome on foot and using public transport. Visit the Roman Forum and the Colosseum, Piazza del Popolo and church of Santa Maria de Popolo, housing some of the best Renaissance art of any Roman church, including 2 works by Caravaggio. Continue to Piazza di Spagna with the Keats-Shelley Memorial House where souvenirs of the Romantic writers are now kept. Onwards via Piazza Barbarini to the Trevi Fountain, a marvel of 18th Century sculpture fed by 80,000 cubic metres of water per day! (6 hour guide can be provided at additional cost) Overnight: Rome. Day 3: Rome Half day spent in the Vatican City on foot and using public transport. Visits here will be made to the Vatican Museum which incorporates the Sistine Chapel. Continue to St Peter’s Basilica with an opportunity to ascend the dome (a guide can be provided at additional cost). Afternoon free or book an optional excursion. Overnight: Rome. Day 4: Travel to Bay of Naples area You will be met at your hotel after breakfast by your Italian coach and transferred to the Bay of Naples area for the second half of your tour. An optional extra visit to the catacombs can be made en route (extra charge for extended coach hire). Afternoon spent at leisure in Sorrento. Overnight: Bay of Naples area. Day 5: Pompeii Full day excursion to Pompeii (a guide can be provided at additional cost). The eruption of Vesuvius in 79AD buried this town under a mantle of pebbles, mud and volcanic ash. Today, the site has been preserved with original streets, house and works of art of the day. Overnight: Bay of Naples area. Day 6: Herculaneum Full day excursion to Herculaneum, a spectacularly well-preserved ruin protected by volcanic ash (guide can be provided at additional cost). Continue on to Vesuvius, a 30 minute walk along a steep path leads to the rim. You will be accompanied by a guide at the rim. Overnight: Bay of Naples area. Day 7: Paestum Full day excursion to Paestum via Amalfi and Ravello along the Via Amalfitana, one of the finest coastal drives in Italy, affording constantly changing views of the landscape. Paestum with its Greek and Roman history is the site of 3 golden stoned Doric temples that are amongst the best preserved in Europe. The town of Amalfi is built into the cliff facing a blue bay and is composed of tall, white houses. Overnight: Bay of Naples area. Day 8: Return to the UK Breakfast (last meal included). Subject to flight timings, free time in the morning for further sightseeing or shopping.
